The South Western Fine Art department is invested in making artists who creatively think, inquire, communicate, refine skills, take risks, solve problems, collaborate, and reflect. The arts provides students with the opportunities to identify, value and extend their academic, personal and social capabilities by offering multiple pathways to learning.
South Western's art curriculum supports and reflects the goals and objectives of the National Core Art Standards of Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting as well as the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for the Arts.
From early elementary levels through high school fine art classes, student learners have the opportunity to develop personal fulfillment through their authentic art experiences. An education in the arts contributes to the development of productive citizens enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills they need for employment in the 21st century:
- To achieve at their highest levels
- To think critically and creatively
- To work independently and cooperatively
- To value diversity
- To make informed choices
The arts are essential to the human experience and the South Western Art Department is dedicated to the arts.
