The South Western School District's English Program integrates all forms of communication including reading, writing, listening, speaking, spelling, and vocabulary development. This progressive and carefully coordinated program teaches students how to understand, interpret, and create printed materials. Since these language processes are not isolated but rather integrated, the program fosters the idea that the entire communication process should be utilized and developed in all subject areas.
Teachers of the program endeavor to provide a success-oriented atmosphere with opportunities to expand the students' minds in the areas of critical thinking and reasoning. In addition, a broad range of learning activities promotes interaction and communication between students and teachers.
Students will become readers by reading and writers by writing. These communication activities are intended to provide experiences that will initiate a lifelong pursuit of reading and writing, both of which will open the gates to literacy and self-fulfillment.
