The South Western School District World Language Program integrates the four basic communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will improve their proficiency in each of these areas through a wide range of learning and cultural activities. Since these language processes are not isolated but rather integrated, the World Language program fosters the idea that the entire communication process should be utilized and developed. Students who choose to pursue foreign language study at the college level will have a strong foundation in each of the World Language competencies. In addition to these communication skills, teachers in the World Language program promote cultural and geographical awareness. Concentration in these areas will enable students to develop attitudes and skills necessary to function in a global community. The World Language Department hopes to inspire a life-long enthusiasm for world language study, travel and global communication.
