The South Western School District (SWSD) strives to provide our students with opportunities to participate in multiple interscholastic athletic programs throughout the school year, over the course of the three sports seasons (fall, winter, spring), with participation spanning from Grades 7 through 12. Mustang teams participate in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) at the state level, PIAA District 3 at the regional level, and in the South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) at the local level.

The Vision of the South Western Athletic Department is to shape competitors for the sport of life. Mustang student-athletes will cherish tradition, share ownership and voice within their athletic educational experiences, and serve as ambassadors for our school through admirable performances, both on and off their respective fields of play. Our ultimate goal is to apply the experiences gained and lessons learned through participation in Mustang athletics, to prepare our student-athletes for life in the real adult world.

Since joining the district in 2022 after a long career in Maryland, Athletic Director Troy Warehime CMAA, strives to utilize athletics as a platform in which to enhance the overall educational experiences of our student-athletes through their participation in the 24 various sports programs offered by the district. Toshia Brodbeck, our Dean of Students and a South Western Alumni, has recently joined the department in a new role as Assistant Athletic Director, and brings a wealth of athletic knowledge & experience to the team. Caryn Flaherty ATC, is our long time devoted certified athletic trainer and teacher, who provides valuable medical care and assistance to our student-athletes throughout the year. Nancy Costello is the athletic departments long time clerical assistant, and is tasked with a myriad of responsibilities including but not limited to: ACADEL reporting, homeschool students, finances, senior nights, awards, & varsity jackets ordering,

The athletic teams that the SWSD offers are led by dedicated coaches who hold deep commitments to their athletes.
